Alpha Gamma Omega
'''ΑΓΩ - Alpha Gamma Omega''' (aka "AGO") is a fraternity which is centered on Jesus: a Christian fraternity. It was created in 1927 at UCLA, with E. Harlan Fischer as the first president. There are currently eight active chapters.
Fraternity Statement of Faith
Members of AGO subscribe to the following statement of faith:"I hereby publicly confess my belief in the Lord Jesus Christ as God and only Savior and give witness to the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit in my life. I will make it a purpose of my life to continue in fellowship with God through prayer and reading of the Holy Scriptures."
Fraternity-Wide Events
- Founders' Day Banquet. The last Saturday of February, the active and alumni members hold a lunch-time banquet to celebrate the founding of the fraternity. Usually held at The Castaway restuarant in Burbank, the banquet is usually followed by an after-party at the home of a local alumnus.
- Pismo Beach Flag Football Tournament. Every October, the various chapters compete on the Pismo-Oceano Dunes against one another for the trophy, followed by an evening of dinner and prayer in San Luis Obispo.
- Prayer at Noon
- Monday Night Meetings
Membership Requirements
Pledges may become active members of an AGO chapter at the invitation of the current active members. To become eligible for consideration, pledges must perform the following tasks during their pledgeship, while obeying the pledge rules:- Complete all pledge Bible Studies.
- Satisfactorily pass all pledge tests.
- Complete seven hours of fraternity event planning.
- Complete seven hours of outreach service/evangelical work.
- Complete seven hours of work on the local chapter house.
- Interview each active member.
- Submit a summary and analysis of the "Biblical Basis for Christian Standards."
- Submit a personal statement of faith and practice.
- Each pledge class must also donate to the active members a decorative "paddle", a book to the E. Harlan Fischer Library, and a gift of their choosing.
Legal Issues
U.S. Federal and state laws prohibit campus organizations at public universities from discriminating in their membership based on religion. However, it is well-accepted that an organization ought not be forced to accept into its leadership those persons who disagree with its very stated purpose. Because AGO's primary purpose is to spread the Gospel, the fraternity requires that its officers submit to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and subscribe to the Fraternity Statement of Faith.List of Chapters
